Physicals Q & A

Why do I need a physical?

Around 60% of American adults have at least one chronic health condition. Most chronic diseases develop gradually and don’t cause symptoms in their early stages. However, when a disease is diagnosed and treated early, you can reduce your risk of future problems and protect your health.

A physical is an excellent opportunity to evaluate your overall health and wellness with a professional who can identify health issues in their earliest stages.

The team at White Integrated Health Clinics PLLC keeps detailed records about your health and can identify changes that might not be obvious to you. They can confirm diagnoses and provide treatment to restore and protect your well-being.

What should I expect during a physical?

After you check in with the helpful front desk staff, a member of the clinical team escorts you to a treatment room. They check your height, weight, blood pressure, and blood oxygenation.

Then you meet with your healthcare provider. They review your medical history and ask about any changes or issues you’ve experienced since your last visit.

During the physical part of the exam, your provider looks into your eyes, ears, and throat. They feel your neck, lymph nodes, and abdomen. Your provider also listens to your heart and lungs and performs some standard neurological assessments to gauge your balance, strength, and reflexes.

Your provider can also perform any additional health screenings such as Pap smears, pelvic exams, breast exams, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing, or hormone tests.

At the end of your appointment, you and your provider discuss your health and any steps you can take to lower your risk of disease or enhance your wellness. You can schedule any additional treatments at this time.

How often do I need a physical?

There is some debate in the medical community about how often adults need to have physicals. The team at White Integrated Health Clinics recommends having a physical each year.

An annual physical allows your provider to track any changes and provide treatments or lifestyle advice in a timely manner. As mentioned, early diagnosis and treatment typically lead to better overall health outcomes.
